THE SOFTWARE AG FOUNDATION

The Software AG Foundation (SAGST) is an independent charitable foundation under German civil law with headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. We are not a corporate foundation; rather, the foundation is the principal shareholder in the Software AG company, also located in the research town of Darmstadt. The founder of both, the company and the foundation, is Dr. h. c. Peter Schnell, who in the 1990s transferred his company shares to the foundation.

Since its founding, SAGST has been using the profits on more than 1.2 billion euros in foundation assets to support projects organized by independent charitable organizations in Europe and Brazil that directly and exclusively serve the common good.

SAGST supports initiatives not only in the areas of Education, Children and Youth, Disability Care and Elder Care but also in Anthroposophical Medicine as well as scientific and practically-oriented projects in Nature and Agriculture.

In total, we co-enable an average of about 250 projects per year that create healing social impulses for the (further) development of people and society. SAGST ranks among the largest foundations in Germany, measured both in terms of assets and total grant making to further its goals. 


SHOWCASE

Globally, demand for complementary medicine is increasing. To boost research in this area, the University of Basel has appointed biologist Carsten Gründemann as Assistant Professor for Translational Complementary Medicine. The professorship is housed within the Department for Pharmaceutical Science. Over the next five years, nine sponsors will support the endowed chair with around three million Swiss francs.


PROJECT GALLERY

In Thüringen, independent schools are at a financial disadvantage: these are the results of a new study from the Institute for Structural Politics and Economic Promotion in Halle. The study is based on an examination and comparison of school-reform related costs between public and independent schools.


The TUSCH partnership project generates valuable impulses for a new culture of teaching and learning, as well as lively theatrical developments. Independent theater troupes are partnering with schools in Darmstadt to bring various productions to the stage.


The “Learning Paths” project at the Care Education Center in the Filderklinik aims at an even better integration of theoretical and practical training for caregivers – and emphasizes competence-oriented collaboration and individual learning.


The kindergarten Mühlenhof-Kinder in Hitzacker (Wendland) blends elements of forest and Waldorf education. It offers a protective, experiential space for 15 children between the ages of 3 and 7.


How do former students look back on their time at a Waldorf school? How do they reflect back on their time in the classroom? What influence did their attendance have on their further life’s journey? A new survey of Waldorf graduates will address these themes and questions and will be published in 2020 by the publisher Beltz Juventa Verlag.


On September 14, 2019, the starter’s gun will sound for the fourth round of the Diesterweg scholarship (DWS) in Darmstadt, Germany. This Saturday, 17 new scholarship families will be welcomed during the opening celebration, and their two-year educational journey will officially begin.
