The coronavirus pandemic, which led to major losses, caused stock indices to plummet by more than 30 percent. Its financial consequences also infected many foundations, which had already been significantly weakened by a long phase of falling interest rates before Covid-19. How the SAGST experienced this challenging year and the investment strategy that was pursued during the crisis is explained by Markus Ziener on the occasion of the publication of SAGST’s funding and financial report.


Attentive readers may have already noticed that there is also basic information (only in German) about the Software AG Foundation (SAGST) in what is known as ‘plain language’ available on our website. In doing so, we want to present key aspects of our work as simply as possible.


We have had an eventful year during which we had to forgo many personal encounters due to the coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, we succeeded in jointly giving substance to healing impulses for people and society and staying in touch in new, virtual ways. Movement is an expression of childlike joie de vivre, vitality and curiosity. But this developmental driving force also incites us as adults: internal and external movement allow us to learn and gain insights about the world and ourselves – as we move through our lives. In its latest foundation publication, SAGST has explored this living phenomenon, shedding light on the healing aspects of movement in various aspects of life.


With SAGST explicitly in 2019, the Software AG Foundation (SAGST) published its fourth funding and finance report in this form. In addition to facts and figures on funding activities, it also reveals the foundation’s investment strategy. The example of Bingenheimer Saatgut AG (BSAG) shows how much it is associated with the ideals of SAGST.
