In its series about Darmstadt foundations, the Darmstädter Echo produced, in addition to its portrait of the Software AG Foundation, a focus piece about a project that is a model of civic engagement. The non-profit organisation “Hiergeblieben e.V.” focuses on creating better care structures in the Darmstadt area, including further development of its service center in Kranichstein, which brings together home care, social services and volunteer work. It aims to enable the elderly to remain at home as they age. “Hiergeblieben” - German for “staying here” - is a central point of contact for outpatient care and counselling. It wants to provide local care options and thus demonstrably increase quality of life for elders in the area.

The Software AG Foundation supports this project because it recognizes that neighborly care for the elderly is an important germ in a society. Particularly in light of demographic developments, there is an urgent need for ideas and structures that support a self-determined, socially integrated existence in old age.
