Rudolf Steiner (born on February 27, 1861 in Donji Kraljevec in present-day Croatia, died on March 30, 1925 in Dornach/Switzerland) was an Austrian philosopher and founder of anthroposophy. His holistic view of the world has inspired countless initiatives, of which Waldorf schools and biodynamic agriculture are probably the best known. The values of the Software AG Foundation (SAGST) also refer to Rudolf Steiner: "Anthroposophically motivated, pluralistically oriented" - this statement sums up its commitment to independent schools and curative education as well as integrative medicine and sustainable agriculture.

Major event in Stuttgart

Numerous events in 2025 will commemorate Steiner's life's work and explore the relevance of his ideas for today. To mark the 100th anniversary of his death, Stuttgart's Schlossplatz will be transformed into a lively marketplace for anthroposophy from March 28 to 30, 2025. Under the motto "Loving diversity", visitors can expect a broad program that highlights and reflects on the diverse practice of anthroposophy. A cultural stage and several themed tents invite visitors to actively experience and participate.

The main stage will offer a colorful program of music, eurythmy, circus and panel discussions. Renowned personalities will discuss current topics such as "The future of free people in a divided society" and "Sustainable management". In-depth discussions on nutrition, education and economics will take place in dialog forums that are openly and critically oriented towards the future.

The "Friends of Waldorf Education", which has been supported by SAGST for many years, will also be on site. In the "Waldorf Worldwide" theme tent, the association will provide information about emergency education projects and present a photo exhibition of the same name, which was created in 2019 in collaboration with Leica Camera AG.

Lecture series and symposium at Alanus University

With an interdisciplinary program, Alanus University is also taking a differentiated look at the founder of anthroposophy during the commemorative year. The public lecture series "Future Impulses in Rudolf Steiner's Work" (March 10 to June 16) in Alfter will examine Steiner's suggestions for a sustainable economy and curative education as a starting point for inclusive social development. The symposium "Rudolf Steiner and Human Rights" on March 20/21 at the Mannheim location, which was also open to the public, addressed controversial aspects such as accusations of irrationalism and racism in Steiner's work.

Literature tip:

Just in time for the Rudolf Steiner memorial year, Steiner expert Wolfgang Müller takes a fresh look at the founder of anthroposophy and his work today: Who was Rudolf Steiner? What were the themes he pursued so intensively? The criticism of him is also discussed in detail, but above all Steiner's significant impulses for an urgently needed reorientation of contemporary culture.
